Tips on buying vintage:
Regardless of how good any individual component specs out, your audio system will only perform as well as the weakest component in the system. The best exotic loudspeakers available will sound mediocre when driven by a gutless power amplifier. Likewise, a powerful, expensive, accurate amplifier driving cheap, poor quality speakers will sound cheap. Superb audio systems are assembled by collecting superb components. When it all finally comes together, you will hear it, see it and know it!

VINTAGE STEREO SPEAKER SYSTEMS FOR SALE (prices are for the pair)
____________________________________________________________
Choosing a speaker...although this may spark a lively debate, basically, there aren't many quality vintage speaker systems that really need more than a bass woofer driver and tweeter (a 2-way system). Speakers that have specs such as 10 to 50 watts or 50 -200 watts are based on sensitivity, from approximately 82dB to 105db. A less sensitive speaker will require more watts for a louder volume. It can be surprising how much volume some late '60s-'70's speakers produce while rated at "only" 10-18 watts yet rated at 95dB sensitivity. It's all down to two things: design and YOUR ears..

NOTE: For most turntables, removing the dust cover when playing LP's can result in better sound. The dust cover can act like a giant tympanic membrane which has a tendency to transmit the vibrations it picks up from the cartridge through the connection of the tonearm to the plinth.
